The Collegium of Seniors
Do you think it's fun to be at Norrlands? Did enjoy being a part of Norrlands - back in the days? Then you should read this:
Tasks
The Collegium of Seniors is the part of the nation's organization that exists for the members who have participated in the nation for a while and for those who have left the active studies and are now alumni. The Collegium consists of the nation's seniors. Eligible to become a senior, is each member who have belonged to the nation for at least six complete semesters. The Collegium has a number of formal duties in the daily operations of the nation. It is the Collegium that prepares and presents proposals for honorary members to the landscape, and it also assists the curators in office in contacts with honorary members. In addition, the Collegium is responsible for printing of the annual ?landsmannahälsning? and may treat any other questions that the rest of the nation has referred to the Collegium. Decenniegaskerna, which are held every five years, created at the initiative of the Collegium and has remained in our care. The main task of the Collegium, in terms of size and comprehensiveness, is to organize activities where Norrlands alumni may be able to return to the nation and meet old acquaintances, and thus also ensure that former members have the opportunity to meet the current nation life and its active students.
Activities
The Collegium has one regular meeting per semester, where the formal duties are handled. The spring gathering, traditionally held on May 1, is followed by the nation May Dinner. In the autumn, the autumn gathering is usually held with a simple dinner. In recent years, the Collegium has arranged a Christmas tree plundering for children with parents of Norrlands nation: This recurring event in the middle of January is very popular with both children and parents! Also not to be missed is the traditional herring lunch on the nation's balcony every last of April.
The Senior?s gask is our own gask that occurs in march every year. A thoroughly enjoyable event it is the chance for member of all generations to come together and exchange experiences and enjoy each others company.
The Collegium also seeks to take advantage of the vast knowledge that exists among seniors, so once a semester we attempt organizing a tour to appropriate cultural objects and landmarks in this city of learning under the guidance of knowledgeable nation member. In addition, the Collegium has arranged senior dinners, songbook evenings, pub nights, and so on. Since the autumn of 2005 we have organized together with the nation Speaker?s dinners, where a lecture on some interesting subject is given and then followed by a light dinner and opportunities for questions.
Membership
Are you not already a senior? Then you can become one simply by applying. You can also nominate someone you think should be one. To be eligible you must have been a member of the nation for at least six complete semesters. Applications should be directed toward the board of the Collegium, which deals with the issue just before the semester's third landscape where the election itself is held. Application deadline is usually around two weeks before the landscape, so look for the last date in the calendar!
Unfortunately, the application cannot be sent in via the Internet or e-mail.
