Why become a member of Norrlands nation?
Congratulations on your admission to one of the oldest and best universities in the world! Studies in Uppsala are stimulating and rewarding - but do not let them get in the way of true education!
With the oldest university comes also the oldest and best student life! Uppsala's nations have a long tradition of offering extracurricular activities and are ready to give you an excellent complement to your studies. Norrlands nation is Uppsala's largest nation, both in general size and number of members, and is the obvious choice for those who want to get out as much as possible out of their time in Uppsala. We offer our members unparalleled opportunities for both social networking and gaining valuable experiences. Here follows some things that make Norrlands nation unique:
Societies
Norrlands has a wide range of activities and organizations among which you are sure to find something that suits you! Why not play in one of the jazz orchestras, join a sports team, act with the theater (so called
spex
) society, or join one of our cultural fraternities or sororities (each with their own background in a specific part of Norrland, often focusing on that part's cuisine and traditions).
During the day:
During the day we offer places to study, a computer hall with computers to borrow, breakfast, lunch and coffee (fika) in Maj's café (Uppsalas student café with the most generous opening hours). Furthermore, we have our own library with a quiet reading places and considerable amount of the course litterature at Uppsala university.
During the evening
Our pub, Orvar?s krog, opens early every evening. Orvar is the largest nation's pub in Uppsala by far - renowned for good beer, great food and a fantastic atmosphere. Every Wednesday we have our club Hexagon
!
(short for
We play pop-music!
)
with - of course - free entrance for you as a member.
I addition there is the popular evening café each Tuesday, and the occasional Jazz-evening for those who enjoy dancing to a live band. Also, at least once a month, there is a great
gask
(=traditional students party) where every part of the house stays open and Norrlands is filled with happy students enjoying themselves until 4 o'clock in the morning.
Housing
Norrlands nation offers our students a "second home" in Uppsala, where you will meet friends for life, but we also do our best to offer you a place to live. We have about 800 student rooms and apartments that are only available to our member (and where you gather points in queue per semester that you have been a member, and get extra points for being involved in running the nation).
They can be searched online by registering as a member on
